“See in This a Chance to Die…”

imageIt’s been years since I’ve written poems or songs, but I was reminded today of this poem I wrote way back in 2005…It is based on a quote by Amy Carmichael, a missionary to India. Even though this was written years ago (and you can tell it was written by a teenager), I still am able to reflect and see parts of my heart in it. But God is challenging me that even in the things I face today, I need to die to myself and put my trust completely in Him.

What about you?…

A Chance to Die

I know I have been called to a life of prayer
A life of compassion and of care
But so often I choose not to obey
And instead choose to go my own way
“See in this a chance to die.”

I struggle with being the real “me”
And too often worry of what others might think
Although I know Father longs to draw me near
I’m distracted by how I seem to appear
“See in this a chance to die.”

I wish I could see more than just one step ahead
My future is dim, and I see the unknown instead
Knowing that You are going to use me to bless
Doesn’t make me fear any less
“See in this a chance to die.”

Among all this confusion and chaos
Fortunately my God is not at a loss
He walks beside me with His guiding light
And gently shows me how to do right
“My child, who knows this path better than I?”
